“Songs of Paradise” by Renzu Film

LA based filmmaker Danish Renzu on Saturday informed that he is planning to create a musical film titled “Songs of Paradise.”

The screenplay of the film is written by Danish Renzu and Sunayana Kachroo. The two are reuniting after the success of “Half Widow”.

In a statement, the filmmaker said that the aim of the film is to revive and recreate old songs from Kashmir and to give them a platform.
He said that the film will be dedicated to Valley’s legendary singer late Raj Begum.

Born in 1927, Raj Begum was honored with Padma Shri in 2002 and got Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 2014. The latter is India’s highest honor to a practicing artists. Her captivating voice has ruled generations of Kashmir’s music lovers. She had taken off as a wedding singer and then rose gradually to become one of the most powerful female voices in Kashmir.

Besides, being a tribute to the legendary singer, this narrative will center around the journey of music and the plight of musicians in the valley, the aftermath of the turmoil and its impact on the life of a singer.

Sunayana Kachroo, said that this is a special project as it gives her an opportunity to divulge deep into her roots culturally and linguistically as well.

Composer, Abhay Sopori will be recreating the songs under the guidance of legendary Pandit Bhajan Sopori.

Instead of indulging in the vicarious nostalgia of the golden years of sufiyana music, the film makers plan to recreate,rearrange the music that is in desperate need of fresh air and modern sound without tampering the soul of the original melody.
