Shweta Tripathi drawn to ‘stories that break the mold’

BDC News

Mumbai, Oct 15  Actress Shweta Tripathi says she is always on a lookout for characters that break the stereotype, and make a mark.

Shweta found a similar spark in her role in the upcoming short film “Laghushanka”, directed by Nikhil Mehrotra.

“When I heard the narration for the first time from Nikhil, I was completely glued to it. As an actor I am always drawn to stories that break the mold and ‘Laghushanka’ was one such instance,” Shweta said.

“Using humour and a small-town setting, the short film dwells on a significant human concern at its core that’s still clouded by stereotypes. I would love to do more stories like these which, when you watch, leave you with a warm feeling in your heart,” she added.

The film is about a young girl and her problem of bed-wetting. According to Nikhil, “Laghushanka” has a real-life relevance.

“I used to know this girl in my neighborhood in Bihar who had the same issue of bed-wetting. While it seemed funny at the outset, I remember the embarrassment the girl faced and the constant bullying she suffered. I was very young then, but it has stayed with me. This film is a lighthearted yet sincere attempt to bring to focus this issue and brush off the labels that come with it,” he said.

The film will be stream on SonyLIV from October 16.
