BDC News

Mumbai, March 28  Music composer and percussionist Bickram Ghosh has dedicated his new album “Maya” to late sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar.
The album is part of ‘UTSAV!’, an East Meets West Music series celebrating the life, music and legacy of Ravi Shankar. It features musicians and students inspired by the maestro and who continue his mission of peace through music.
Talking about it, Ghosh said in a statement: “He (Ravi Shankar) made me what I am today. Besides influencing my tabla playing, he also influenced me hugely in all of my compositional work spanning over 30 albums and 25 feature films. I have always been drawn by the evocativeness of his compositions with the subtle rhythmic interplays, the harmonious intermingling of both east and west, his mind bending melodic inventions and improvisations.
“He is a true star of world music and his body of work is a never ending gift.”
Ghosh has performed at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Centre, Royal Albert Hall and Palais De Beaux Arts.
“Maya”, released by Sony Music, also features artistes from all over the world. The mastering of the album is done by Grammy Award winner Barry Philips.
