Indian classical and folk Dance Guru , Smt. Jasmine Shah’s Aangikam Dance Academy held it’s annual dance performance on June 19th, 2016, with the theme of Woman Power, Devotion and Emotion songs. The show started around the afternoon on the sunny Sunday and lasted several hours, ending in the evening. With around 200 dancers, each new performance came with an array of new faces, styles, and expressions. Ranging from ages 6-7, to around 50 years old, it was beautiful and pleasing to see all age groups creating art on stage together.
With the variety of devotional songs, there was also a flavorful mix of new Bollywood hits such as “Mohe Rang Do Laal”, “Deewani Mastani”, and “Pinga”. Near the end of the show, a Beyonce tune surprised kept the audience on their feet. With many of the dancers having completed their Nritya Nipuna, the artistry of the dancers were evident and made for an enjoyable cultural representation. The performances explored all aspects of a women’s life, including happiness and joy, along with emotion and anger.
The vibrant costumes, the catchy tunes, and the skilled dancers all contributed to a truly fantastic show. While wishing a Happy Father’s day, Jasmine Shah, who was recently awarded with INE Lifetime Achievement award for her outstanding contribution in promoting Indian dance, gave a very profound message that “Today’s mothers or women take so many responsibilities, and to have a happy married life, fathers you have to make sure that your mothers, wives, and daughters are happy.”
