Animal box office collection day 1 early reports: Ranbir Kapoor’s epic poised to dismantle Pathaan’s opening day record, set to gross more than Rs 100 crore worldwide

Ranbir Kapoor is all set to deliver the biggest opener of his career with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, which debuted in theatres on Friday to enthusiastic response from fans. The film is set to exceed all expectations on its first day of release, and according to industry tracker Sacnilk, it will deliver Rs 65 crore from India alone. Sacnilk is also predicting a global opening of more than Rs 100 crore, making it the third Bollywood film of the year to pass the coveted milestone on day one. Morning shows and afternoon shows on day one reported 46% and 54% occupancy.

Animal delivered one of the biggest pre-sales in the history of Indian films. The action-thriller sold nearly 5 lakh tickets prior to release day, finishing at the fifth spot on the all-time list after Baahubali 2, Jawan, Pathaan, and KGF: Chapter 2. The movie is also delivering tremendous numbers in the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions, a sign of how strong Vanga’s fanbase is. Ranbir’s previous top opener was last year’s Brahmastra, which earned Rs 36 crore in India on day one of release. His 2018 film Sanju collected Rs 34 crore on opening day, and went on to become his biggest hit, grossing nearly Rs 600 crore worldwide.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh posted on X that Animal is dominating across all quadrants. “From urban centres to mass pockets, from multiplexes to single screens, from Tier-1 to Tier-2 and Tier-3 centres, from East to West and from North to South, it’s Animal mania all across,” he wrote. Prior to the film’s release, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga said in an interview with iDreamMedia that the movie was tracking to generate Rs 50 crore from just the Hindi language version on day one, and is expected to gross nearly Rs 350 crore worldwide on the opening weekend.

Animal comes five years after Vanga helmed Kabir Singh, a remake of his breakout Telugu film Arjun Reddy. Kabir Singh grossed nearly Rs 400 crore worldwide, and divided audiences down the middle. While many appreciated its angsty depiction of love, others felt that it glorified toxic masculinity. Vanga had promised that his next film, Animal, would have violence unlike anything seen before in Indian films. The movie also stars Anil Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, and is clashing at the box office with Vicky Kaushal-starrer Sam Bahadur.
