New Delhi, July 12 (IANS): Celebrated designer Anju Modi, whose work as a costume designer in “Bajirao Mastani” was lauded with a National Award, has now been honoured by the JD Institute of Fashion Technology.
She was honoured as part of ‘The Fashion Awards’, the new face of the annually held JD Annual Design Awards. The event took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here from July 10-11 as a celebration of the culture and spirit of fashion.
Modi was awarded the ‘Best Costume Designer’ for her work in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama “Bajirao Mastani”.
She said she had designed 80 nauvari saris for the character of Kashibai — essayed by Priyanka Chopra — in the film.
“Though the project has drawn to an end, but I firmly believe that the fever of periodic fashion is going to last longer than a runway season,” Modi said in a statement.
Other winners were: Meera-Muzaffar Ali for ‘Most Inspirational Fashion Designers’, Rohit Bal for promoting Indian fashion worldwide, while in the Space Design arena, the award was given to designer Manjeet Bullar and Wall Street art promoter Hanif Kureshi.
“The Fashion Awards is a platform which provides students unlimited opportunities to stretch their creativity to the maximum and enhance their potential. It’s an opportunity for the students to work with leading designers and be seen and recruited by leading brands in India and abroad,” said R.C. Dalal, Executive Director, JD Institute of Fashion Technology.
At the gala, young aspiring designers showcased a melange of apparels — from baseball jacket to tuxedos and elegant ensembles for women.
This two-day festival of creativity showcased the creations designed by the students of fashion, interior and jewellery designing departments on the theme ‘The Untold Story’, highlighting the first thought that comes in the mind.
