Mumbai, July 13 (IANS): Veteran Designer Anita Kanwal has launched her new line “Kaushalya” as a tribute to her mother who was an ace needlework artiste.
Anita is an Indian television actress and producer who has worked in television serials such as “Chanakya”, “Shanti” and “Sonpari” and she turned to designing three years back.
Her latest collection consists of hand-woven art work of musical instrument and musical notes.
The creations consist of intricate designs using musical instruments like tablas, sitars, trumpets, ghungroos in the form of embroidery, hand painting and block print on hand-woven fabrics such as linen, chanderi, pochampalli silk, tusser and cotton.
“I have tried to give fashion a cultural twist. I remember as a kid my mother saved every penny to buy me the best musical instruments. So as a tribute to her i designed my next collection with music as the theme.”
“I also believe that we have to break the notion that saree is for older women. I wish that every woman across the globe will give the saree a chance,” she said in a statement.
The designer has combined art and culture giving it a contemporary style.
