Music heals…
Music rejuvenates…
Music speaks when words fail…
Such is the power of music. And when this music is put towards a good cause, it becomes noble.
A noble event occurred on May 7th, 2017 in the Washington DC area, when a singing group “Sur-Dhanuk-Dhun’ organized a charity musical to raise funds for a non-profit organization EduGirls, www.edugirls.org, that runs two schools for underprivileged girls in India.
This show, “Oldies Goldies Dil Se Jawan’ was dedicated to the seniors in the community. During the three and half hours of the musical program, audience was enthralled by a team of nine singers, “Naughty Nines’ as they would like to be called.
They presented more that 25 songs from the golden era of Bollywood film industry.
Lag ja gale, Dil ka bhanwar kare pukar, Jane kya tune kahi, Bahon mein chale aao, Zindagi bhar nahin bhoolegi who barsaat ki raat, Chala jaata hoon kisi ki dhun mein, Chaudhavin ka chand ho….stole the heart of the audience.
Duets were also carefully chosen to keep the romantic theme in mind. Whereas Shridhar and Sangeeta revived the Shankar Jaikishan classic “ Pyaar hua iqraar hua hai’, Vinita and Samarjit did magic with Yeh raatein yeh mausam…
Many more yesteryear melodious numbers kept the audience on their feet throughout the show. Not to mention dancing on the stage with a ninety year old gentleman and his soulmate, who danced throughout the program.
Sur-Dhanuk-Dhun is founded by Sangeeta Mathur Simlote, and Parasuram Iyer “Shridhar’, who share two qualities: Their passion for music, and their willingness to help those who are less than fortunate.
We look forward to take this work of theirs outside of DC area, and raise awareness about EduGirls.
