“Essence Of India” is an outdoor cultural event taking place on Sat, 16th of August at NARA Park, Acton  from 3 p.m to 7 p.m It follows two very successful events when over 1500 visitors participated in the event that celebrates the classical and folk arts and traditions of different regions of India.  This year, our theme is Indian dance, presented in multiple genres in both Indian classical and fusion.
The event has many more aspects to it.  The attendees will see energetic blend of South and North Indian music performances. We always manage to bring some unique Indian instrument recital, and doing the same this year. There are the States’ Pavilions featuring booths representing unique traditions of the states of India, each more exotic than the other, incorporating our theme of dance this year. The visitors can also eat Indian food, apply henna motifs, and participate in interactive exhibits featuring science, arts and crafts related to Indian festivals, highlighting the festivals and crafts of India. Last year our kite flying turned out to be the most popular. Our science booth managed by “Young Einstein” was another highlight of the event. The exhibits will include participations by non-profit vendors such as Asha for Education, AID Boston and MIT chapter – groups that support grassroots organizations in India.
Essence of India has been covered by several local and state newspapers including Boston Globe and local TV channels.
The goal of the event is to bring communities together by creating cultural bridges, and encourage our children to discover multicultural traditions and heritage. We encourage and invite all the communities to attend and participate. This event is partially funded by Town of Acton-Boxborough, Concord, Chelmsford, Littleton and Westford Cultural Councils.
