What happened with Dhoni is unfortunate: Anil Kapoor

BDC News

New Delhi, April 28 (IANS)  Actor Anil Kapoor says that endorsing brands comes with a lot of responsibility but one can’t presume the legitimacy of a particular company in the long run. He also says that whatever happened with Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the brand ambassador of a real estate firm was “very unfortunate”.
Earlier this month, Dhoni resigned as the brand ambassador of Amrapali, days after the unhappy residents of a housing project in Noida launched a social media campaign, asking the cricketer to disassociate himself from the realty firm.
Sharing his reaction on how brand endorsements are crucial for popular faces like him, Anil said: “I have always endorsed those brand whom I believed and supported.”
“I feel it is such a speculative business and sometimes you don’t know (what will happen). What happened to Dhoni is very unfortunate. Sometimes real estate brands look very legitimate and honest so these things happen. You can’t stop them,” added the 59-year-old who was in the national capital with star Farhan Akhtar for the announcement of the 17the edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards.
It’s not just the cricketer who was targeted for endorsing a brand that has not fulfilled its promise. In the past, stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit Nene and Preity Zinta were also dragged into a controversy over endorsing Maggi noodles, which was temporarily banned in India apparently due to harmful ingredients.
IIFA, a four-day cinematic celebration, will be held in Spain from June 23.
