Heard withdraws restraining order against Depp

Los Angeles, Aug 17 (IANS) The very public falling out between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has come to an end, with the two saying they have agreed “to resolve their divorce proceeding privately” and as Heard moved to withdraw abuse allegations.
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love,” reads a joint statement emailed to The Post. “Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future.”

In May, Heard accused Depp of domestic violence and filed a restraining order against the 53-year-old actor. She arrived at the Los Angeles Superior Court with a bruised face and alleged that Depp hit her and struck her with a cellphone. Depp was ordered by a judge to stay at least 100 yards away from his estranged wife and have no contact with her until the next court hearing.
News of the settlement came a day before a scheduled hearing on Heard’s restraining-order request. Heard’s move to withdraw that request was first reported by TMZ.
The couple met on the set of the 2011 movie “The Rum Diary,” and dated for a few years before marrying in February 2015. Police were called to a “domestic dispute” in May and “found no evidence of an assault,” Variety reported. Heard, 30, did not file charges at the time; days later, she filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
Depp had denied allegations of repeated emotional and physical abuse, and several Hollywood figures publicly defended the actor and criticized Heard. Depp’s friend Doug Stanhope wrote a column accusing Heard of blackmail. Actor Paul Bettany tweeted he had known Depp for years “and through several relationships. He’s the sweetest, kindest, gentlest man that I’ve ever known.”
Depp’s representative in May said, “Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious, false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life.”
