Indian-origin lawyer dies after being hit by train in US

Washington, June 8 46-year-old Kirtee Kapoor passed away on June 5 after being struck by a train during morning hours in California. He was a partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell, a leading international law firm, and he headed its India operation. He was one of the first of a new generation of India-trained lawyers to make partner at top international legal firms.
Kapoor had joined the firm in 1999 and was made a corporate partner in the firm’s Menlo Park and New York offices in 2007. Previously, he had spent time in the firm’s Frankfurt office, where he used to advise start-up founders, corporates, and funds. He was elected to the firm’s partnership in 2007 and moved to Hong Kong later that year. In 2015, he joined
Davis Polk’s California office.
Kapoor graduated from the Delhi University in 1997 and earned an LLB. He was editor-in-chief of the Student’s Law Review and President of Moot Court Society here. Thereafter, he went to Oxford University to pursue BCL, following which he completed his LLM at the School of Law, New York University in 1999. In NYU, he was a Hauser Global Scholar and Graduate Editor of the Journal of International Law and Politics.
Davis Polk issued an obituary on their website. It says, “Kirtee was a truly wonderful man. His optimism, warmth, honesty, and wisdom were inspiring. He will be remembered as a great partner of the firm, a beloved colleague, and adviser, and a steadfast friend to so many.” It added, “We will miss Kirtee tremendously. Our deepest sympathies go to his wife and daughter, and we extend our most heartfelt condolences to all of his family, colleagues, friends, and clients.”
