The actress wins custody of their children among other things….
Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor and Delhi based industrialist Sunjay Kapur officially divorced on Monday with the family court accepting their consent terms agreed by the couple in April.
The couple has had a long battle over divorce and custody of their two kids, before they agreed to a consent term before the Apex court in April this year.
On Monday, the couple filed the consent terms, where the actor agreed to withdraw all her cases filed with local police station and magistrate court. Sources also revealed that the custody rights and financial exchanges have also been agreed upon.
Sunjay’s advocate Aman Hingorani, said that the family court has accepted the settlement and formally pronounced the couple as divorced on Monday.
The couple had initially moved a mutual consent divorce petition before the court in 2014. Later the consent was withdrawn after differences cropped up between the two on over financial settlement and custody battle for their kids – a boy and girl.
Sunjay filed a fresh petition asking for a judicial separation in December last. Karisma, too, also filed a case of harassment against her former husband and his mother.
Sunjay and Karisma tied the knot in 2003. Things, however, turned sour soon. The two tried to work out for a few years after the Delhi high court advised the couple to explore the possibility of a settlement. Karisma moved out of Sunjay’s house in 2010 and permanently shifted base to Mumbai. In 2014, the two decided to end their 12-year long marriage and filed for a divorce through mutual consent.
Sunjay has claimed that Karisma used the kids as ‘pawns’ and did not let the Kapurs meet them frequently in order to claim more money. Sanjay also stated that she deprived his ailing father access to his grandkids.
