Niharika Khan hopes for 'Fan' inspired clothing line

BDC News

New Delhi, April 8 (IANS) National Award winning costume designer Niharika Khan, who has worked on the outfits for Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s “Fan”, says she would love to see a clothing line inspired by the costumes that the actor has donned in the Maneesh Sharma directorial.
Asked whether there will a clothing line inspired from “Fan”, Niharika told IANS: “I hope so. One never knows. I think if a film economically does well, then everyone associated with it does well.” image006
“But the great thing that I have to say is that the costumes that we have created, Shah Rukh has loved them so much that he has added a lot of them to his wardrobe. That is a big compliment.”
In “Fan”, Shah Rukh essays two roles — one of a superstar and the other of a fan.
Sharing her experience working for the “Chennai Express” star, Niharika said: “There was a pair of dhoti-pants that (designer) Varun Bahl had done with a sherwani, that I had cut down for him. When he (Shah Rukh) saw them, he said ‘what are you making me wear?’ And then when he wore it, he loved them so much that he got it recreated for himself personally.”
“Also there were these 35 track pants and he had taken all of them. That in itself is a compliment. And if that is any indication, then definitely we will have a line of clothing coming out.”
What was the style statement she wanted to create with “Fan”?
“I don’t think I’m creating a style statement at all. I’m just creating two characters that are too vastly different. If you want to say Delhi versus Mumbai or upper class versus lower class or a younger person versus older person — that’s what we are trying to create,” explained Niharika.

She has designed costumes for films like “Rock On!!”, “The Dirty Picture” and “Bombay Velvet”.
“Fan”, which is produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF), is slated to release on April 15.
