If there is one voice that has not stopped raging in revolt ever since the alleged suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput, it is the voice of the angry young woman Kangana Ranaut. There is not a day when she is openly and fearlessly fighting against what she believes is the forces of nepotism, the gangs and the mafia in the film industry in Mumbai. She has in a way declared war on these forces and has even threatened to expose and rip off the masks from some famous faces (or is it infamous faces ? ) even if she has to fight till her last breath. The industry must have never faced a grave situation like it is facing today and it must have never expected a leader to emerge from a crisis that the death of Sushant has created. The investigations into the suicide (?) are still not over, but the war within the industry is on in full force. On the one hand, there are all the names and faces which have been targeted and who are trying their best (or is it worse ?) to cover up their faces and even to go into some kind of underground. And on the other side are the forces which have been trying to fight to expose what they feel is a nexus out to what they call “destroying the outsiders” and leading this brave army is the already controversial Kangna who is now better known as a dissenters, a rebel and a woman who revels in creating controversies over what she feels is wrong and believes must be weeded out in the interest of a better future for the industry.

Kangana has her fighting base in Manali where she has been living during the lockdown period. She is assisted by her sister Rangoli who is also her manager and is known for all her angry and negative tweets. And Kangana has inspired a band of supporters who believe in the cause she is fighting for. There are Powerful sections of people in the industry who are feeling insecure and even if i may say so scared about this new phenomenon who in their desperation are calling her a “witch” who is practicing her witchcraft on the poor innocent industry. And what is most interesting is that some so called thinkers among film makers are in their learned opinion branding her as a leftist and a communist….

They may call her any names and do what they feel is right to suppress her voice, but their are no signs of their making any kind of difference to the war declared by Kangana and her growing brigade…

In her last attack on the bastions of the forces she is fighting against, she came up with some glaring stories about how she herself was a victim of the “mafia”. She came up with the story about how the lyricist Javed Akhtar called her to his house after she had lashed out at the Roshans. Javed, the man with a voice for every occasion, she said had asked her to apologise to the Roshan for what she had said about them and had even warned her that if she didn’t, the Roshans who were very powerful in the industry could get her thrown into jail and that she would then have no future and no face to show and would ultimately commit suicide. She was harassed and humiliated by Akhtar while she was in his house and had felt shattered, but gathered courage and decided to fight back and survive and succeed. And that is what she has been doing during the last two years.

She also talked about her being harassed and being pushed to the wall by the Bhatt brothers. But the big charge she leveled against was her charge against Aaditya Chopra and YRK. She said she was offered the role of the leading lady in Sultan with Salman Khan as the hero, but she had turned down the offer. Her rejection was taken as an insult by Aaditya and he point blank told her that she would never work under the banner of YRK.

Kangana has been fighting not only for herself but has been raising her voice for all “victims” like her. She has now taken the case of Sushant very seriously and is willing to fight even if she is sidelined by the industry and is willing to create her own world whatever the odds and whoever her challengers. It would be very intresting to see how this war between the big names and this so called leftist and communist actress with her difference ends…

In the meanwhile, Kangana is doing her best to complete all her work on Thailavi, the multi-lingual biopic being made on the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalitha, which is the only film she has on the floors.

It is said that Kangana has literally directed the film, but it is not something that is happening for the first time. Kangana had shown her interest in giving shape to a film when she wrote parts of the script and most of the dialogue in “Queen” the film which shot her to stardom. She continued to play a major part in the making of all her other films and finally took over the reins of direction and directed “Manikarnika” which turned out to be a landmark film both critically and commercially.

Will Kangana officially take to directing films of her own ? She has indirectly given all the reasons to believe that she will. Kangana has been an admirer of directors like Mehboob Khan, K Asif and Guru Dutt and is one of the few young actresses whose favorite actor is Dilip Kumar and this background is more than anyone can need not to predict, but to be sure that Kangana Ranaut will be the name of a leading director in the next few years. Admirers will wait for that new Kangana and her detractors will hate to see anything like that happen to the “pahaadi ladki “who came from nowhere and created a sensation in an industry which tried its best and even worst to beat her back to the hills from where she came.
