Raj Kapoor & Nargis: Pyaar Hua, Iqraar Hua, Dimple Kapadia hui?

 They couldn’t get enough of each other. Nargis was Raj Kapoor’s babycakes and their tale of love transcended all imagination. Nargis and Raj Kapoor were seemingly emancipated and cared a damn for societal norms. They did it in the open, again and again. It did not matter to them that Raj Kapoor was married. It did not matter what the society would think of them. He just couldn’t have enough of her and Nargis was always ready to give more.. There was more than a hint of gluttony about their relationship.
Somebody, some day, was bound to come out of this extra-marital affair. Dimple Kapadia did! Perception aside, there is every reason to believe that Dimple Kapadia was the illegitimate child of showman, Raj Kapoor and Nargis.
If you think about it, Dimple Kapadia is a child of fate. Raj Kapoor and Nargis, both leading a parallel married life, couldn’t possibly keep the child. She had to go and she did. Shedding every pretense of righteousness, they gave Dimple away to the Kapadias. They had committed a sin by abandoning her. Krishna, Raj Kapoor’s unfortunate wife, went into depression due to Raj Kapoor’s womanizing ways.

Despite everything, Raj Kapoor couldn’t resist the fatherly instinct to help his child prosper in life. He launched Dimple in the movie, Bobby, and from there began another love story, of an incestuous kind, perhaps. Rishi Kapoor fell in love with his step-sister, Dimple, and carried out a steamy affair till Raj Kapoor put his foot down. As the patriarch of the Kapoor khandaan, he arranged Dimple’s marriage to superstar, Rajesh Khanna.

Unfortunately, this marriage could not work and they separated in 1982.

Raj Kapoor was a womanizer. He was the first man in the industry to showcase women as objects of sexual desire. Nargis may have been her first love, but she was definitely not the last. Vijayanthimala and Zeenat Aman are the others who have been linked up with Raj Kapoor. He was a very powerful Bollywood personality and he wielded lot of influence. Actresses with Bollywood dreams were only too happy to bare it all in front of him. Some trade analysts say Raj Kapoor may have exploited their vulnerability.

It is said that after hearing the news of Nargis’ marriage to Sunil Dutt, he immersed himself in sorrow, drank endlessly, cried for hours and locked himself in. No matter how many other relationships he may have had, Nargis was his only true love.
