Kangana Ranaut said the Best Actress National Film Award that has came her way on Monday for her dual act in Tanu Weds Manu Returns, is “the best birthday gift” for her.
“It’s the best birthday gift I could have got. I am thrilled and I feel blessed,” Kangana, who turned 29 on 23 March, said. The actress said she was on her way to her grandmother’s home in Himachal when she received the news. “It’s unexpected and overwhelming,” she admitted.
The actress said she is especially excited “since Mr Bachchan is the Best Actor with me”. Amitabh Bachchan was named the Best Actor for his effortless portrayal of a nagging father suffering from constipation in Piku.
When she was asked how she plans to celebrate her win, she told a news outlet, “My birthday was a low key affair after the mess that I have been going through. I felt I am in a good place but there was so much happening around me, so I didn’t celebrate it. But with this win, I guess everything has been flushed out and I am looking at that silver lining. Like I have said in my previous interviews, ‘It’s okay. Shit happens. You have to move on’. I am planning to celebrate this win and I will host a small gathering for the people who rooted for me and for those who love underdog stories. I thinkNani must have made something nice like rajma chawal, kadhi and all of that, so we will have a mini celebration right now too!” said Kangana.
The actress also admitted that now, she is busy thinking about “what to wear for the ceremony”.
This is Kangana’s third National Film Award victory. She had won the Best Supporting Actress prize for Fashion, and Best Actress for Queen.
