The superstar is launching a brand new venture
Salman Khan recently launched the jewellery line for his brand Being Human and is now also all set to start his own chain of private single screen theatres, according to a report in BollywoodLife.com. He is planning to call the theaters Salman Talkies.
The report said that Salman feels that movie tickets in tier-one cities have gone up to Rs400-500 and he feels charging such huge amount for a movie ticket is not right.
He was quoted saying, “If a film has to flop, the effect of the loss should be as little as possible. Jai Ho did a business of Rs138 crore with tickets priced at Rs200. On weekdays, the prices were down to Rs 00 but since we didn’t publicise this fact, people said, ‘Arey is that the only business? Rs138 crore is a huge, how many films touch that kind of a figure? Prem Ratan Dhan Payo made Rs 238 crore but since it didn’t make as much money as Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the perception is that it flopped.”
The report said that the chain is supposed to start in Diwali this year throughout the state of Maharashtra. As of now, six single screens across Maharashtra have been roped in and more locations are being explored, the report added. The actor also plans to open branches in Uttar Pradesh by 2017.
A source was quoted saying, “He will be lending his name to a theatre chain to promote tax-free viewing. Tickets for films at his theatres will be available at heavily subsidised rates and free for children. Salman will be launching each screen himself.”
