Sandeep Reddy Vanga STORMS on people “within industry” criticising Animal: “Lack common sense, privileged lives”

BDC News

Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the director behind the recently released film Animal, has ignited a debate within the Indian film industry with his response to criticism of the movie. Animal, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri, has been met with mixed reactions, with some praising its intensity and others criticizing its portrayal of violence and misogyny.

Vanga, known for his previous film Arjun Reddy, has made it clear that he takes criticism from the general audience lightly. However, in a recent interview with Dainik Bhaskar, he expressed particular frustration with comments from certain members of the film industry.

“If someone irrelevant says something, I take it lightly because they don’t know anything,” Vanga said. “But for those who are within the film industry and still don’t know the deal, then it angers me more.” Vanga described these critics as having “privileged lives” and lacking “common sense.”

Vanga defended his film while talking about the time and effort he poured into its creation. “It took me 2.5 years to make this film,” he said. “We are working with such dedication, minding our own business, and if someone comments on us, then doesn’t it anger you? Will you stay quiet? So, I am reacting to that, nothing else.”

It is worth mentioning that Vanga’s above comments come after Javed Akhtar, Konkana Sensharma, Kangana Ranaut and Kiran Rao criticized the film and its alleged misogyny. It seemed that Shah Rukh Khan also criticized the film, though cryptically. At the News18 event, SRK had said, “If I play a bad guy, I make sure he suffers a lot, he dies a dog’s death because I believe goodness begets goodness. And I believe badness deserves a kick in the backside.”

Coming back to Animal, after a successful theatrical run, the film made its OTT debut on January 26. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
