Sushant Singh Rajput death: Twitter lashes out at Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt for ‘fake tears’

BDC News

Mumbai, June 16 Sushant Singh Rajput’s death has opened a can of worms of sorts for Bollywood. Shocked at the 34-year-old actor’s suicide, several Bollywood celebs shared condolence messages on Twitter. Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar were one of them. Except, Twitter thinks these are ‘fake tears’.

Since last night, Twitter has been abuzz with posts from Sushant’s fans, calling out Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt. Last night, Alia had tweeted, “I’m in a deep state of shock. No matter how much I think about it, I don’t have the words. I’m totally devastated. You’ve left us too soon. You will be missed by each and every one of us. My deepest condolences to Sushant’s family, loved ones, and his fans (sic),” while Karan Johar wrote, “This is heartbreaking….I have such strong memories of the times we have shared …I can’t believe this ….Rest in peace my friend…when the shock subsides only the best memories will remain….Broken heart (sic),” along with a picture of Sushant Singh Rajput.

Twitter soon pointed out that such ‘fake’ condolence messages mean nothing right now, especially after Sushant is no more. The hashtag #BoycottBollywood has been trending on the micro-blogging site since morning. Screenshots of tweets calling out the ‘Bollywood elite club’, and Karan and Alia in particular, have also gone viral.

Here are some posts:

Old videos of Sushant from an awards ceremony, where he was called up on the stage by Shahid Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan, are also going viral. Fans have pointed out that Sushant was extremely awkward on stage, even as the A-listers mocked him in jest.

Another screenshot of an old tweet, revealing that Dharma Productions, Yash Raj Films, Balaji Motion Pictures, Salman Khan Films, Sajid Nadiadwala, T Series and Dinesh Vijan have banned Sushant Singh Rajput, leaving him no choice but to work in TV series or web series, is also being circulated.

Clips of a particular Rapid Fire session on Karan’s Koffee With Karan show, featuring Alia, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra, where the four discuss Sushant, is also being shared widely to point out how little star-kids thought of the late actor.

Sushant Singh Rajput was reportedly battling depression for the last six months. Most A-lister tweets spoke about how they wish he had reached out to them when he needed a friend, instead of dealing with it all by himself. Twitter, however, feels that when Sushant was alive, he was bullied by the very same people, pushed to a corner and forced to fend for himself, instead of supporting him or his work.

Kangana Ranaut, who has always been extremely vocal against nepotism, and has called out Karan Johar for encouraging star-kids only by giving them a break in his films, released a video earlier today reiterating this. She said, “Woh log chahte hai ki woh itithaas likhe, aur usmein ye likhe ki Sushant kamzor dimaag ka tha. Woh nahi batayenge ki sachai kya hai. Toh humein decide karna hai who will write history? We will decide that,” adding that “Toh yeh suicide thi ya planned murder tha?”

It is important to give talent their due. And if celebrities are struggling with personal and mental health issues, the media should try and emphasize with them, rather than making it difficult for them!

Apart from Sushant’s fans, several Bollywood actors and filmmakers have also shared cryptic tweets about the raging outsider vs star-kids issue in the industry. Shekhar Kapur, Anubhav Sinha, Gulshan Devaiah, Nikhil Dwivedi, Sapna Moti Bhavnani, among others, indirectly accused the ‘elite club of Bollywood’ or the Bollywood mafia for pushing real talent out, or to the verge of suicide.

Shekhar Kapur tweeted, “I knew the pain you were going through. I knew the story of the people that let you down so bad that you would weep on my shoulder. I wish Iwas around the last 6 months. I wish you had reached out to me. What happened to you was their Karma. Not yours. #SushantSinghRajput (sic).”

Anubhav Sinha wrote, “The Bollywood Privilege Club must sit down and think hard tonight. PS- Now don’t ask me to elaborate any further (sic),” after news of Sushant’s death broke.

Gulshan Devaiah wrote, “As actors, somewhere deep down inside, we think we know why he did it & that’s why it so disturbing even if you didn’t know him at all. It’s a hard game to play and he played it very well but the game won in the end (sic).” In the following tweet, he added, “Really sorry to be doing this but Bollywood is not a family , it never was and never will be . If one thinks it’s a family .. there is the problem. Bollywood is an imaginary name for a place of work that’s it . I am really not trying to put anybody down here & sorry if it seems (sic).”

Nikhil Dwivedi tweeted, “At times our movie industry’s hypocrisy gets to me. High &mighty announcing they shud ve kept in touch wth Sushant..Cmon u didn’t! &thts coz his career dipped. So STFU! R u in touch with Imran Khan, Abhay Deol &others? No! But u were, whn they were doing well #SushantSinghRajput (sic).”

While Sapna Bhavnani wrote, “It’s no secret Sushant was going through very tough times for the last few years. No one in the industry stood up for him nor did they lend a helping hand. To tweet today is the biggest display of how shallow the industry really is. No one here is your friend. RIP (sic).”

Sushant Singh Rajput’s last rites were performed at the Pawan Hans crematorium at Vile Parle, Mumbai. The funeral was attended by his family and a few close friends.

Sushant’s last film was Chhichhore. His next, Dil Bechara, was scheduled for a May 2020 release, however, it was delayed due to the novel coronavirus crisis.
