'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' writer to turn director next year

BDC News

Mumbai, April 3 (IANS) “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” writer Himanshu Sharma, who has bagged the National Film Award for the screenplay and dialogues in the Kangana Ranaut starrer, is now all set to turn director.
Asked when he will be seen in the director’s chair, Sharma told IANS: “I can fail miserably as a director but I think I can direct. I am scripting right now and if things go well, I will direct (a film) in 2017. Once I am done with the film that I am currently writing for Aanand, I will start with my film. Then I will start pitching for actors soon next year.”
Will Rai produce Sharma’s directorial venture?
“I hope and I pray that he is willing to do that, and put so much of goodwill and money on my debut film. I pray he does that. He is very much willing to produce so far as I have discussed about it with him,” Sharma said.
Sharma feels a film is a director’s medium and he is the one who bears the brunt for a movie’s failure.
“The stakes are higher for a director… Whether it’s a bad film or bad acting, the brunt always is taken by the director. It’s a huge responsibility and slowly I am learning it.”
